Everything You Need to Know About Charcoal Soap

If the idea of cleansing your face with charcoal sounds a little counterintuitive, we’re here to clear up (pun intended) any doubts. Our new Charcoal Face Bar works to clarify and detoxify your skin without drying it out. Read on for seven reasons this is the product you never knew you needed—until now.

1. Safety first: Soaps are often made with harsh surfactants such as sulfates that are overly drying and irritating to the skin. In addition, soaps may contain parabens as well as synthetic dyes, antioxidants, and fragrances that can act as hormone-disrupting chemicals. Our face bar doesn’t come with any of that.

2. Charcoal has gained a lot of attention lately as a buzzy skincare ingredient. Our bar contains a special type of charcoal powder calledBinchotan, which helps to thoroughly cleanse skin and draw out dirt, oil, and impurities.

3. The fear with any deeply cleansing, detoxifying product is that it will also dry out your skin. Thanks to hydrating organic coconut and sunflower seed oils, our formula doesn’t

4. Other noteworthy ingredients include antioxidant-rich organic green tea extract as well as organic witch hazel, an astringent that works to refine pores and balance skin.

5. Our formula works well for all skin types—not simply combination skin—and for men, women, and teens. It’s gentle enough to use daily on both your face and body.

6. Nothing looks cooler on your bathroom counter than a bar of black soap (plus, it’s a great conversation starter).

7. It’s designed to help give you a smoother, brighter, healthier-looking complexion—and who doesn’t want that?

The 5 Best Ways to Get Rid of Stretch Marks Naturally

The 5 Best Ways to Get Rid of Stretch Marks Naturally

1. Natural Ingredient Combinations
Aloe vera gel, olive oil and tea tree oil are just a few of the potent natural ways to get rid of stretch marks. Combined with a few drops each of olive and tea tree oils, pure aloe vera gel is a superior remedy for a variety of skin ailments -- from acne to cellulite to, you guessed it, stretch marks.
This almost supernatural substance is infused with antibiotic, anesthetic, hydrating, and cell growth stimulating properties. Aloe vera also contains many amino acids, enzymes, essential minerals, proteins, and the vitamins C & B 12. It also effectively retains moisture in the skin while stimulating the production of elastin and collagen to thicken the skin of stretch marks and dramatically reduce their appearance.

2. Stretch Mark Removal Creams
Another of the most effective and natural ways to get rid of stretch marks is the use of stretch mark removal creams. Topical creams containing collagen and elastin as well as other skin building compounds prevent skin from drying out, keeping it supple and smooth.
Stretch mark removal creams that actually work are not necessarily expensive, as some would lead you to believe. And while it's true that many retail stores offer a generic "stretch mark cream", most of them aren't worth the tube they're contained in.
Scam beauty products are a dime a dozen, making it very hard to find the real deal. That said, if you want to find a product that's worth using, trust in our reviews and our recommendations. We've reviewed the best stretch mark creams on the market and we've found the ones that actually work and are worth your hard earned cash!

3. Prevention
One of the best ways to get rid of stretch marks is to prevent them from developing in the first place. Alright, so this won't technically get rid of stretch marks you already have -- but that doesn't make it any less important, does it? After all, once you get rid of the ones you've got, it's not like you'll never be at risk of getting them again, right? Exactly my point!
Do your best to follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and drink lots of water. Avoid gaining more than 15 lbs per month, even during pregnancy; which is the most common cause of stretch marks. As soon as you notice even the smallest sign of a stretch mark, begin using anti stretch mark remedies asap. The sooner you take action, the better off you will be!

4. Getting More Of The Right Vitamins & Minerals
Eating fruits, vegetables and lean protein foods rich in vitamins A, B, biotin, niacin, vitamins C, D and E are also natural ways to get rid of stretch marks.
The B vitamins, especially biotin and niacin enable skin to retain moisture while increasing the production of collagen and elastin. The minerals copper and zinc are also essential to support healthy connective tissue and new skin growth.
Poultry, fish, lean beef, eggs, nuts rice and legumes are high in niacin and biotin. Blueberries, avocados, mangoes, leafy green vegetables, nuts, and poppy & sunflower seeds are excellent sources of copper, as are some cereals, meats and fish. Foods rich in zinc include poultry, lean meat, and oysters.

5. Alpha Hydroxy Acid
Widely promoted for its powers of rejuvenation, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) is another of the best ways to get rid of stretch marks. AHA is generally derived from sugar or dairy products. A potent exfoliating compound, AHA essentially dissolves dead skin; allowing newer, younger skin to take its place. The most common alpha hydroxy acids are glycolic and lactic acids. These acids penetrate the skin, and clinical research proves them to extremely effective.

Black Spot On Face Treatment

Here is a fusion of some of the home remedies and the formal treatments which you can undergo to revive the clearer side of you no matter they are caused due to exposure to skin, some sort of medication or any sort of burns and acne!

Lemon: It is as simple to use as to buy! Squeeze some of the lemon juice and dab it softly with the cotton ball on the dark spots in morning and evening. Make sure you wash your face properly before applying this. Lemon is a natural lightening agent which controls the excess production of melanin. Continue this for three weeks and you will see the difference automatically!

Exfoliation: This technique basically works only if the black spots on face have not reached to the deeper layers of the skin! How do you know if it has reached lowest layer? If you are noticing these blemishing spots from one or two months then it means that they have developed recently and may still be in upper layer of the skin. Exfoliating cleanser helps in scrubbing off the topmost layer of skin and bringing back the new layer to the surface. It scraps all the dead skin cells from the face and brings in cleaner and clearer new skin.

Chemical peel: This is a process which is performed by dermatologists as it involves usage of glycerol, lactic and alpha-hydro acids. Apart from these there are different chemicals which are used depending upon the deepness and darkness of spots. It also involves removing of top layer of skin so that it becomes easy to lighten up the spots in the roots. The skin experts are the best to guide for this procedure as it is not something which you can try at home!

Horseradish: While the name of this plant may be for many of you but it is wonderful when it comes to clearing black spots on face. It is Richie rich in vitamin C and thus decreases the production of melanin. All you have to do is to mix this plant from the family of radishes in apple cider vinegar and keep it still for two weeks after which you can apply this mixture on the blackish area twice a day for about a month and see the magic happening in front of your eyes!

We surely advocate for selective renowned products as an effective  for black spots on face treatment. But also we love natural skincare solutions. There are multiple home remedies apart from above and we will soon be bringing them if you desire! We know how much you love your skin which is basically your first line of defense from external factors! And therefore always remember that in case of repairing, patience and consistency are your weapons which help in sailing the boat; so never lose them beautiful!

How to Use a Toner on the Face

Facial toner is a skin care product that offers different benefits depending on the specific type of toner used. Facial toner can soak up excess oil and remove dirt, makeup and dead skin cells from your face; restore your face's pH balance; condition and moisturize your skin; and prepare your skin for better absorption of skin care products that are applied to the face immediately after the toner. Toner typically comes in a liquid form, although some toners are formulated as gels or mists. A toner can be used on its own or as part of a multistep skin care regimen as the step in between washing the face and applying facial moisturizers.

Step 1

Select an appropriate facial toner for your skin type and budget. If you suffer from acne, select a toner specifically indicated for this condition. If you need help finding the right toner, consult with a dermatologist, skin care esthetician or an experienced skin care product sales associate.

Step 2

Read the manufacturer's instructions for your facial toner and follow any instructions, indications or warnings. If the manufacturer's instructions differ from the instructions given in this article, always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 3

Wash your face with your regular facial cleanser and pat your face dry with a clean towel. This step is optional, as some people prefer to use facial toner on its own.

Step 4

Apply a small amount of liquid facial toner to a cotton ball or pad. Take care not to saturate the cotton ball or pad with the facial toner but put enough facial toner on the cotton ball or pad so that it glides easily over your face.

Step 5

Move the cotton ball or pad gently in small circles across your face, paying special attention to your chin, nose, cheeks and hairline. Avoid your eyes and mouth.

Step 6

Repeat the process with a fresh cotton ball or pad until you no longer see dirt and debris on the cotton ball or pad. This step is optional; sometimes using just one cotton ball or pad is sufficient.

Step 7

Wait at least one minute for the toner to dry on your face. Toner is not meant to be washed off your face. Then, if desired, apply moisturizer or serum to your face.

Tip

  • Replace the cap on the bottle of toner immediately after use to prevent the toner from evaporating.

Warnings

  • It can be dangerous to ingest facial toner or get it in your eye. If ingestion or eye contact occurs, follow the manufacturer's instructions for these situations and -- if necessary -- call the poison control hotline or visit your local emergency room.
  • If irritation or an adverse reaction occurs after using a facial toner, immediately discontinue use and consult a doctor.
  • Keep facial toner out of reach of children and pets.

How to apply face serum

You may live by the skin care mantra of cleanse, tone and mositurize but do you know where the face serum fits in?

Serums are relative newcomers to the anti aging skin care market and a lot of people (me included when I first starting using it) are unclear about exactly when and how to apply a skin serum to get the most benefit.  It’s an additional step in the daily skin care regimen and we’re not sure just when to use it. Under or over your moisturizer – last thing before your makeup – sometimes skin care manufacturers don’t make it clear.

You might assume that if you don’t get guidance from the makers – it doesn’t matter how you apply it.

But it does – applying your serum properly has a real impact on how well the active anti aging ingredients penetrate below the skin’s surface. Ultimately it can make a difference as to whether you get the positive results you want.

Take time with face serum

Corrrect application of all skin care products is important  – especially if they contain active ingredients that need to penetrate to the dermis to be effective.  Not applying products in the right way can mean the active ingredients just sit on the surface and fail to have any effect at all.
The purpose of a face serum is to deliver active ingredients to your skin – if you don’t put it on right the money you’ve spent could be wasted.
It’s definitely worth taking a little bit of time now to learn the best way of applying face serum to get the most from the active ingredients.

Don’t apply too much face serum

If you get problems with serums splitting or not sinking in – it may be nothing to do with the product.  It may simply be you are applying too much in the hope of instant younger looking skin.  It’s a common problem according to dermatologists.
Putting on too much cream or serum is a recipe for problems.  Skin can only absorb so much and the residue will remain on the surface and can block pores causing breakouts or coagulate and ruin your makeup.
Start off by reading the instructions on the packaging and use only the amount of product recommended.  Don’t overload your skin.

Active ingredients have to work together

The other issue with using competing brands of skin care is that the ingredients may cause conflicts and confusion.  An active ingredient in your serum may cause irritation when combined with a different active in your face cream or they may just cancel one another out.
Quality brands have been formulated to deliver outcomes – skin clarity, reduction in fine lines – based on a set of ingredients that work together.
Using products from the same line will reinforce the results – using a randomly chosen alternative may undermine them.

How to apply face serum – top tips

Whether your face serum give you the results you want will depend at least in part on how well you apply it – so here’s some great tips to follow to make sure you get the results you want:
  1. Active ingredients penetrate better when skin is clean, warmed and slightly moist so cleanse thoroughly in your normal manner and then apply toner if you use one.
  2. Apply a warm moist towel to your face to gently open pores and leave skin slightly moist
  3. Apply tiny dots of serum all over your face and then blend lightly and quickly all over with your middle finger
  4. Use short light but firm strokes to apply your face serum.   Do not stretch, pull or rub the skin.
  5. Whilst the serum is still wet after applying gently tap the surface of your face with your fingers for half a minute.  You can use all your fingers both hands on either side of your face very lightly.  The tapping action encourages the serum to sink fully into the deeper layers of the skin as far as it is able to go.
  6. If you feel any tingling sensations when you apply the serum – don’t worry.  Tingling can be a sign the active ingredients in the serum are getting to the dermis – where they need to be if they are going to work.  Types of serum ingredients where you may see this result include vitamin C and retinoids
Only when your serum is fully dry – touch dry on your face – should you apply your moisturizer in a similar manner.  Let that sink in fully before you apply your foundation and normal makeup.
Of course – understanding how to apply face serum is the first step – what really makes a difference is doing it!

How (and Why) to Use Face Serum

It's a beauty misconception that serums are just a more expensive form of skin moisturiser. Yes, the price is more per ounce than your average skin care product, but that's because you're getting more concentrated ingredients (and deeper-penetrating effects). Get the low-down on why serums are worth every penny when you keep reading.
Why use it? A serum is your go-to product to improve the overall look of your complexion. The active ingredient can bring antioxidants to the skin, restore cell growth, or help decrease pore size. But the one thing a serum doesn't do, typically, is moisturise the skin.
How does it work? "Moisturisers have a base that allows them to stay on the surface to moisturise the outer portion of the skin, but a serum has a lipid-soluble base that allows the active ingredient to actually penetrate into the epidermis," explains Dr. Lawrence Samuels, chief of dermatology at St. Luke's Hospital and founder of the skincare line in the US.
Which one is right for you? "If you have acne-prone skin, the two most significant ingredients would be an L-ascorbic acid [which is true vitamin C] and retinol," Dr. Samuels says. "They're both antioxidants that improve the cell growth in the outer layer of skin." If you have normal skin, look for alpha lipoic and glycolic acids in the serum ingredient list.

How do you apply it? Use about a pea-sized amount of serum for the face and neck, applying the product about two minutes after your cleanser (not on wet skin). "Hydrated cells allow the active ingredient to penetrate better than dried cells," Dr. Samuels says. Then, wait another three to five minutes before applying your moisturiser. "Moisturisers help restore the keratin protein back to the skin, so they generally have a higher pH," he said. "If you put on your serum then immediately put on your moisturiser, it can somewhat decrease the effectiveness of your serum."
Also, it's important to use face serums primarily at night, because UV rays and oxygen can cause them to oxidise — another reason to make sure you always keep a tight lid on your products.

Skin Care Tips

There are five general skin types: oily, dry, normal, combination and sensitive. Sensitive skin may be combined with any one of the aforementioned types, especially with dry skin; so always make sure to go for products with the sensitive label.

Dry Skin: If your skin tends to have an old appearance, looks ashy or feels tight, then it is considered dry. In more extreme cases, dry skin lacks elasticity and can be extremely sensitive to the sun, wind, and cold temperatures. Since you have dry skin, you have to make sure that you do not expose your skin to extreme weather for long periods of time and always moisturize.

·                                 Treatment: Find a moisturizing bath soap or body wash with natural oils like almond, coconut or olive oil. Any other oil of your choice is ok if you have preference. Weekly treatments are recommended for your skin. Fill a tub with honey, milk and half a cup of any nourishing oil and add boiling hot water to the mix. Wait for it is cool to your desired temperature then soak for as long as you want; the longer the better. For ladies, make sure to exfoliate every other day and always wash your makeup off. Since you have dry skin, exfoliate gently and every two days and moisturize every morning and night before bed. For makeup, make sure to use only the ones with natural products. Such brands like Bare Minerals comes highly recommended. Try their tinted moisturizer collection.

Oily Skin: If your sebaceous glands are always on the fritz and your face looks as though you swam across the Olive Oil Ocean, then you have oily skin. Chances are, you tend to break out easily. Whenever you do, do not prick your pimples or blackheads.
·                                 Treatment: Your skin tends to attract more dirt than dry skin, so wash your face twice a day with a good oil eliminating face scrub and warm water. Time for the big reveal.....Himalayas Herbals Excess Oil face scrub. Use it twice a day and it works so well you won't have to blot!
Normal Skin: Some consider normal skin to be combination skin, but it is not. If your skin is oily in the "T zone" and your nose while dry and taut on the cheeks, it is considered normal. It's also considered normal if it changes with seasons (dryer in winter, oilier in summer). Normal skins can also be 'Normal-To's' as in normal to oily or normal to dry.
·                                 Treatment: Wash your face with cleansers that are designed for your normal/normal-to skin type. Wipe an alcohol free, hydrating toner all over the face. Apply moisturizer more frequently to dry skin.

Combination Skin: Combination skin is comprised of two extreme skin types on one face. These situations occur when there is acne and a lot of oil in one area when the rest of the skin is generally dry (no oil).
·                                 Two common examples are dry skin with papular and pustular acne on the cheeks or a normal skin with inflamed papular and pustular acne in the chin and mouth area.
·                                 Treatment: Tend to each area appropriately as described above. If the acne is severe, consult a dermatologist or esthetician.

Sensitive Skin: Please note that you may have sensitive skin and normal, oily, or dry. If your skin has allergic reactions to beauty products and is usually sensitive to the sun, wind, and cold weather, it is sensitive. Sensitivity can show up in rash, redness, inflammation, acne, and dilated capillaries.

·                                 Treatment: Look for cleansers, toners, makeup, and moisturizers that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. Cleanse, tone and moisturize with gentle products everyday. The idea for your skin is to always choose products with a soothing benefit. Some common ingredients to look for are: chamomile, azulene, bisabolol, allantoin, lavender, camphor, calamine, rosemary, thyme, aloe vera, coconut oil etc.

How to Pick the Right Skin Care Products for You

Manufacturers of skin care products classify skin by type. Each skin type has its own needs, and choosing products designed for the appropriate type can help bring the skin closer to its healthy ideal.
Most products intended for dry, normal, oily, or combination skin refer specifically to facial skin unless the product's packaging mentions otherwise. Someone with an oily complexion above the neck could have dry skin on the legs and feet. Look for the skin care product that matches the skin type of the area it is meant to cleanse, tone, or moisturize.

Normal Skin

Smooth, even skin that looks clear and feels supple is considered normal. People with this skin type rarely get the blemishes that accompany oily skin or the rough patches that come with dry skin. Normal skin produces enough natural oil to have a dewy look a few hours after washing. People with normal skin should choose products designed to keep their skin in this state of glowing good health.

Dry Skin

When the skin does not produce enough natural oil or lacks sufficient water content, it becomes dry. Dry skin feels taut and itchy; it may have rough patches where it has become dry enough to flake. Dry skin looks dull on lighter tones and ashy on darker complexions. As skin ages, it often tends to become dry. Although mature skin has its own needs, skin care products designed for it also combat dryness. Products for dry skin aim to replenish moisture and protect the skin from further moisture loss.

Oily Skin

Oily skin has over-active oil-producing glands and develops blemishes readily. Skin that has a slick surface within half an hour to an hour of washing the face probably falls into this category. Excessive oiliness contributes to acne by clogging the pores and giving acne-causing bacteria a place to thrive. However, skin needs a certain amount of oil to stay healthy, so skin care products designed for oily complexions must reduce oil without stripping it away completely.

Combination Skin

This common skin type is oily in some areas and dry in others. The forehead, nose, and chin tend to produce more oil. This area, the T-zone, may need special care for oily skin while the cheeks require extra moisturizer for dryness. Skin care products that normalize the skin by adding moisture without clogging pores can be beneficial for combination skin.

Mature Skin

As skin ages, it grows thinner and more delicate. It also produces less of the protective natural oils that used to keep it supple. Like skin care products for dry skin, products for mature skin are typically creamy and emollient. Skin care lines designed for mature skin may also contain antioxidants, alpha hydroxy acids, and other ingredients with anti-aging properties.

Skin Care Essentials for Every Skin Type

For good health, every skin has a few basic needs. Skin should be clean, moisturized, and protected from the sun's ultraviolet rays. At its simplest, a skin care regimen includes products to fill these three fundamental needs.

Skin Cleansers and Soaps

Skin requires regular, gentle cleansing for a lifetime. Manufacturers offer a tremendous range of bar soaps, foaming face washes, and cleansing lotions to keep the skin clean. While bar soaps or body washes suffice for most of the skin, faces have slightly different needs. Look for a facial cleansing product designed for the appropriate skin type to get the skin clean without drying it or clogging pores.
As a rule, bar soaps are more drying than lotions and foaming washes. Soaps are slightly alkaline and can affect the natural acidity of the skin. For oily skin, this can be a benefit, but those with dry or mature skin may prefer a foaming lotion that is closer to skin's natural acidity. Regardless of skin type, a facial cleanser should remove oil and dirt from the skin without the need to scrub. Scrubbing too hard during cleansing can cause irritation for oily, acne-prone skin and roughen dry skin.

Moisturizers

All skin needs occasional moisturizing. Moisturizers consist of two components: a humectant and a protective ingredient. Humectants, ingredients that draw water molecules out of the environment and into the epidermis, hydrate the skin while protective ingredients form a layer to hold that moisture next to the skin. In a moisturizer for dry, normal, or mature skin, that layer of protection usually comes from an oil. Moisturizers for oily skin are usually oil-free.
By definition, oily skin already has sufficient oil, but it still needs hydration. A light moisturizer designed for oily or combination skin can replenish lost moisture and create a smoother, more even surface. Moisturizing oily skin also helps remove shed epidermal cells that could otherwise find their way into pores and cause clogs, so it is an important step even for oily skin.

Sunscreens

Most of the visible effects of aging are caused by years of sun damage. Ultraviolet rays can even contribute to cancer, so sunscreen is a vital component for any skin care regimen. While darker skin tones are far less susceptible to skin cancer, people with dark skin typically get more serious types of skin cancer when they do develop it. Dermatologists therefore recommend that everyone wear a sunscreen daily regardless of skin tone.
